Nail Fungus

Nail Fungus

Toenail fungus, also called onychomycosis, affects 50% of all Americans over the age of 40. A nail fungus infection may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to change color, thicken and develop crumbling edges — an unsightly and potentially painful problem.

Nail fungal infections can occur after exposure to warm, moist environments where fungus grows, such as public pools or locker room showers. Skin or nail injuries can increase your risk of contracting a nail fungus infection. If not properly sanitized, nail care equipment can also spread fungus.
