Botox Q & A
12/29/2021
For the 18th year in a row, Botox has remained the most popular minimally invasive procedure in the United States. In 2019 over 5 million Botox procedures were performed. Botox was first introduced to the United States in 1989 and after over 30 years we still have many who have questions about the safety of Botox. Today we are going to go over some of the questions that we get asked the most and try to keep some anxiety at bay for first-timers (or repeat clients who still may have questions).
Frequently Asked Botox Questions:
Question: Can I be allergic to Botox?
Answer: Yes but it is extremely rare. Over a span of 15 years, there were only 36 reported cases of allergic reactions to Botox. 36 out of 5,000,000 x 15 is an extremely small number.
Question: I’m kind of worried that I’m going to look different.
Answer: When done correctly Botox should not ‘change the way you look’. Ideally, Botox should leave your forehead (eyebrows, crow's feet, glabellar, etc.) with a soft, smooth (almost creamy), lifted look to the area.
Question: If I get Botox and then stop, am I going to look worse than I did before?
Answer: No, everything will go right back to where it was before you had it done. However, when it is done correctly one of the worst things about it is that you’re going to love it.
Question: I’m uncomfortable with the thought that something ‘foreign’ is in my body. Are there other options than Botox for fine lines or wrinkles?
Answer: Yes, we have numerous options. On our website go look at the MicroLaser Peel, Edge Elite, INTRAcel, ProFractional Laser, ForeverYoung BBL, and Microneedling options.
Question: Are options like Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeaveu just as effective as Botox?
Answer: Yes! The difference between these products and Botox is like the difference between Coke and Pepsi or Nike and Adidas. We love all of these products with the exception of Jeaveu (‘NewTox’). In our experience, Jeaveu lasts about 3-4 weeks less than the other products.
Question: Is Botox safe?
Answer: Absolutely. Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are actually safer for you than Tylenol. There are over 56,000 emergency room visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and 458 deaths attributed to Tylenol overdose every year. Botox numbers are not even a fraction of this over the entire 30-year lifetime of the product.
